Gradient is the degree of steepness from one point to another. Why is this important for your driveway?
There are some strict guidelines that apply with driveway gradients with the two main points being;
- Have a maximum 1:4 gradient
- Transition areas have a maximum of a 1:8 gradient.
Depending on your block characteristics, the actual pad and floor levels could be determined by the driveway and its gradients to ensure that vehicles can adequately enter and exit the Garage and the street crossover.
This is an example of a driveway section outlining correct driveway gradients.

There are examples of driveway gradients that clearly are not suitable and have no consideration for transition areas.
